BoDog has been made famous by their high profile, billinaire owner; Calvin Ayre. Ayre, who has appeared on the cover of Forbe’s, and who is frequently spoted enjoying a lavish lifestyle, grew up as pig farmer, only to become of the biggest names in the online gaming world.
His Brand, BoDog, has gone through many controversial issues, including loosing their domain name to a supposed patent troll. Their brand, which has both fanatical enthusiasts as well as strong detractors, seems to get no in the middle reviews. People either love BoDog, or they hate it. Now, no one doubts that BoDog takes care of its players. This is a fact. But the company has had too much trouble lately to be able to honestly recomend. First, the brand has had a few major processing issues causing extreme delay for a number of player payouts. If you know what this means, you will understand that this caused a lot of affiliates to see a drop in retention. But worse, despite advertising having up to 45% Revenue share on their home page: xhttp://www.bodogaffiliate.com/ they have implemented a 10% Revenue Share for small affiliates. This means, for most small affiliates, it will cost them more to promote BoDog then they could possibly make, unless they are really lucky and nail a whale. As far as conversion rates go, they don’t even track clicks. But if you do your own click traking, you will see that your traffic is likely much better served if sent elsewhere. One of our friends at Affiliate Guard Dog, Engineer said it best:
I agree that the stats are mostly useless. They don’t even show clicks — one of THE most basic metrics needed by an online marketer. I built my own click tracker, which verified my suspicion that conversions are low, but not every webmaster knows how to build a click tracker. The affiliate program doesn’t even keep track of clicks behind the scenes, which is laughable. How can they measure and improve anything if they don’t know exactly how well the landing pages convert? As for the casino software — it’s a mish-mash of a 2 or 3-year-old version of RTG software (they bought the RTG source code 2 or 3 years ago), plus 20 or so low quality slots added a couple of months ago. This is probably why conversions are so bad. Give players a steady stream of new, high-quality slots, and you’ll see good conversion and retention. Give players the same old games for 2+ years, then placate their demand for new slots by adding 20 less than desirable, off-brand pieces of crap, like Bodog did a few months ago, and it’s no wonder the players don’t bother anymore.
